This week in anime was all about the action. Goku vs Hit, heroes vs villains and Asta vs Gouche again before finally teaming up. But there can only be one victor out of the many anime in this fight, and that victor is Attack on Titan. Reiner and Bertolt along with Ymir who is giving Krista a tour of her mouth cavity have Eren and they run off to escape the Survey Corps led by Commander Erwin Smith who using the MP’s as bait for the smaller Titans chasing them predicting that they would led the Titans away from their primary goal of retrieving Eren. He says “let the Titans chase you. You fought well as MP’s, now give your all as solders”.
The MPs naturally were pissed at the Commanders order, but followed it nonetheless. Ymir in Titan form spits Krista out of her mouth and confesses something to her close friend. And no it’s not her obvious love for her, but rather how she used Krista as a bargaining chip for the Titans to let Ymir live. Krista or rather Historia was startled at first, but eventually said that she would always be with Ymir no matter what. Mikasa was a bad ass in this episode, well when is she not.
Throughout season 1 and now into season 2 she has always been to there protecting Eren at all costs. Alas another fanon romance to keep the nerdom occupied. I like when Mikasa was telling Krista as she and the others were giving chase how the world has changed since the Titan invasion and how sometimes you have to be cold to survive. ” Sorry, I have no more heart-strings left to tug on. You want compassion, move on, you want fair, tough shit.” Probably the best lines of the episode, and there were many more too.
“Who chooses to be this” says Bertolt after an emotional scene. His meaning was referring to the humans in this world who can also transform into Titans. Reiner spots smaller Titans and leads Mikasa and the others right at them. The Armored Titan screams in agony as the smaller Titans try to devour him. As he fights them off, he drops his arms leaving an opening for the scouts to get to Eren.
Meanwhile, Erwin gets wounded, and Armin confronts Bertolt and Reiner both. He talks quite darkly to them about the torture that Annie is going through in the Utopia District. This provides just enough of a distraction for the Commander to spring into action, wounds or not as he slashes the Armored Titan as Mikasa finally retrieves Eren. Commander Erwin then ordered a full retreat, mission accomplished.
The last scene was Mikasa carrying Eren as they encounter a strange Titan that Eren at once recognized as the Titan who gobbled up his mother. Dah, dah, daaaahhhh… to be continued. As the episode ended, I wanted to watch it again like a day later, so I did. This was one of the most intense, emotional and best episodes of Attack on Titan yet. Can’t wait for next week.
