This week in anime, we saw the Super Great Saiyaman save the day from an alien parasite, Gouche actually coming to Asta’s aid for a change, and probably the worst episode of Pop Team Epic yet. Seriously, the whole I wanna be a paladin thing was not at all funny and a true fail. This quote from Deadpool 2 perfectly sums it up-” now that’s just lazy writing”. But if their was one anime episode this week that kicked some major booty, it has to be the continuing showdown between Dio and Jotaro in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders.
In Episode 47: Dio’s World Part 3, it’s the showdown I’ve been waiting for and it didn’t disappoint. In Dio’s World Part 2, the battle between Dio and Jotaro merely just got underway. But in Part 3, things really got interesting. Like when Dio used his stand the World to freeze time for 5 long seconds only to be halted as Jotaro who shouldn’t have been able to move or think according to Dio did so by twitching his hand.
Thanks to Kakyion’s final dying message by striking the hands on the clock tower, Jotaro figured out the secret of Dio’s stands power. Although I still don’t quite understand how a magnet on him, and another on Dio caused him to still move briefly. Guess I’m not nearly as clever as a manga writer huh. In any case, with Jotaro’s hand free of being frozen in time, he was able to move the rest of his body. And with the help of his bad ass stand Star Platinum who punched a hole right through Dio’s chest.
After Dio was sent flying through a store window and his leg was severed, he killed the frightened woman inside because he clearly couldn’t pay the bill for the broken window and had no choice right. He then revealed his power of regeneration to Jotaro. Of course he has regeneration, it wouldn’t be an anime show if the main villain couldn’t just regrow severed limbs just because he could. I swear, ever since Majin Buu did it in Dragonball Z, every major bad guy can regenerate now. But it appears that he can’t regenerate if his brains are scrambled, so at least his unfair power has its limits.
I liked when the World and Star Platinum were Ru Ru Ruing the hell out of each other with an endless barrage of punches. They seemed pretty equal overall and it was fun to watch. However when Star Platinum couldn’t deflect all the knifes that the World was hurling at him, Jotaro paid the price and was wounded pretty bad. After Dio stopped time so the World could stick it to Jotaro by way of more knifes some more, he was not quite convinced that Jotaro was dead.
So he listened for breathing, Jotaro held his breath until Dio stopped listening. Still not fully convinced he listened for a heart beat, and Star Platinum aided his stand user by grabbing a hand full of Jotaro’s heart which stopped it from beating. Talk about putting your life into someone else’s hands. After Dio stopped listening, he was convinced that Jotaro was indeed dead. However, he still decided that just to make sure, he would plunge a street sign pole right through Jotaro’s heart.
Just then, Polnareff burst onto the scene. As he used his stand Chariot to stab Dio right through his murderous head. But it was not his brain that was stabbed, allowing him to regenerate yet again. But with Polnareff’s distraction, Jotaro along with Star Platinum gain the upper hand on Dio as Star Platinum socks Dio’s skull many times until it caves in.
On the verge of being defeated, Dio stops time and escapes in a car. As Jotaro gives chase, he is too late, as Dio has taken the blood of another Joestar who…Jotaro’s grandfather Joseph. And next week will be Part 4 and the last episode before the new Jojo series called Diamonds are Unbreakable airs on adult swim. As long as this new series still has Star Platinum beating the crap out of enemy stands, then I’m so on board.
