Welcome fellow otakus to my first ever edition of anime moment of the week. Where I, the Nerdish One maliciously sort through the awesome things to happen in new anime episodes each week. This week, there were moments such as All Might’s former side kick who despite being a serious guy, seems to have a tickle fetish. There was also the second to last episode before the big series finale of Fairy Tale, where Natsu with the help of his friends appears to be powering up to hopefully deliver the final blow against Acnologia.
Those were fun and intense moments for sure, but the one that stood out for me was on this week’s episode of Dr. Stone. In episode 14 titled “Master of Flame” its Magma vs Chrome. The village sorcerer is getting thoroughly beat down by the strongest man in the village until Suika throws Chrome her mask. He doesn’t use it for protection, but for another purpose. He sticks the melon mask at the tip of his spear and just stands idle.
The founder of the Kingdom of Science and main character of the series Zenku explains that what Chrome is waiting on is for the melon mask to catch fire from direct sunlight. It’s like trying to burn ants with a magnifying glass, only the goal here is to burn Magma with it. But for this plan to work, the big man needs to be distracted, luckily, Gen returns to rejoin the Kingdom of Science and he has a plan of his own that will help Chrome win. The self-proclaimed mentalist uses his silver tongue to convince Magma after he sprinkles some mysterious dust on him that if he takes one step forward, his heart will explode.
Magma was skeptical for a hot minute, but not wanting to take that risk, held off from attacking his opponent. Thanks to Gen’s deception, Chrome finally had the minute he needed for the sunlight to catch the mask on fire. The moment that made this scene worthwhile was when Chrome holding the now flaming spear puts it near Magma’s clothes, catching them on fire. As Magma instinctively patted himself, Zenku smiled, as he knew that this would only help spread the flames from the big guys clothes, to the rest of his body. Chrome then drove the flaming spear right into Magma’s junk and pushed him off the edge of the cliff and into the ocean.
It was a funny yet heartwarming scene, as the villainess Magma who only wanted to win the tournament so he could torture his would-be new wife and village elder’s daughter Ruri who suffers from a debilitating illness. Seriously, what a jerk, it was sweet justice to see the Kingdom of Science work together to defeat Magma and to see Chrome who is in love with Ruri get one step closer to marrying her.
And that my friends, is why this is my anime moment of the week. I’m looking forward to next week’s batch of new anime episodes and the unforgettable moments they will bring.
