Summer is officially here, and that can only mean one thing…stay inside it’s hot out. But also it means that summer blockbuster movie season is in full swing. So leave the Borat speedo and suntan lotion at home and bust out the buttered popcorn. A new Jurassic World movie is here, and it’s pretty darn good.
Hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since the original Jurassic Park hit theaters with it’s at the time mind blowing special effects and unforgettable scenes and characters. My favorite moment was being introduced to the dinosaurs for the first time. The look of child like wonder and awe on Grant and Ellie’s faces were priceless. Welcome to Jurassic Park set the stage for the rest of the movie and the series as a whole. Also the scene where the T-Rex was chasing them in the Jeep was a scary and satisfying one. Dinos in mirror may be closer than they appear.
The latest movie in the series Fallen Kingdom starts off at brisk pace and continues from there. Taking place 3 years after the first Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom follows main protagonists from the first film Owen Grady(Chris Prat) and Claire Dearing(Bryce Dallas Howard) as they must head back to the island of Isla Nubblar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that is about to erupt. There is also a new breed of dinosaur that combines the DNA of two of the most fearsome species in Jurassic World. A new breed that not only gives the Indominus Rex a run for his money but gives our heroes one hell of a time just trying to escape from it.
There are a few new cast members in this dinosoric sequel. But my favorite has to be Zia Rodriguez(Daniela Pineda) as the snarky doctor who adds some humor to an otherwise not very funny movie. Look I know that there a volcano and dinos that need to be saved and all, but I would have liked to see more humor like previous films have had. There is a political aspect to the film about wheather to save the dinosaurs or let them die in the volcano because it is an act of God. But of course letting them all die wouldn’t be feasible for Jurassic World 3.
If there is on thing that the Jurassic series has had going for it for over two decades its the dino and human interactions. I almost cried at one scene that had a lone Apatosaurus who couldn’t escape the island before being engulfed in the fire from the volcano. The scenes with Blue and Owen were great in the first film, but sadly lacking in this sequel. Probably due to the fact that Blue was captured along with many other dinos by an organization led by a very rich and yes very evil man bent on creating a new breed of killer dinosaurs. And also to make a mint selling the dinosaurs on the black market.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It had plenty of action/adventure moments, the new breeds are pretty cool, especially the Indorapter. It held my attention, good cast, not as good a film as the last one but still worth seeing at least once.
