All good Avengers movies must come to an end. Pretty sure Hemmingway said that. Anyway, the final movie with all your favorite Marvel characters fighting to save the universe has at last arrived. So, bring your friends, family and a big box of tissues, because this one is going to get heavy.
Five years after the snap heard around the universe, Thanos rests, but not Tony Stark and the few remaining Avengers oh no. When Ant-Man is rescued from the Quantum Realm by a rat (don’t ask) and returns to the real world again, he explains to Tony that five years out here equates to like five minutes in the Quantum Realm. Then, Tony figures out time travel and a plan is then hatched to find Thor, Hulk and the others so that they may gather all the Infinity Stones from the past and to beat Thanos once and for all.
Story aside, I’ll give a brief spoiler and say yes, all the characters that fell to ash from Thanos’s snap will return. Why you ask? Because Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy still have movies in the works, so their agents hold more power than even Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet. I won’t say how they return, but that it’s epic and worth the wait. Also, the whole time travel thing may feel like a broken concept at this point, but the film does a pretty fine job of explaining that if you travel back in time and change something, then it won’t change anything at all in the time from which you traveled from. I know it may seem complicated, but not nearly as much so as in Hot Tub Time Machine.
Now to my favorite part of the movie, and yes, it’s a big spoiler so if you haven’t seen Endgame yet then you should skip this paragraph altogether. When Captain America picks up Thor’s og hammer Mjolnir, the audience cheered and clapped. It was definitely an OMFG moment that was movie theater worthy. In addition, Thor uses his new hammer Stormbreaker and after switching hammers with the Cap, he finally says to him “you can use the smaller one.” I laughed along with the crowd. It was an awesome moment that almost overshadowed one, two or five other big moments that happened in the film.
If there is anything that I disliked about this movie it was probably the run time. A three-hour movie, Endgame definitely tested my bladder resolve. I didn’t even buy a drink because I knew what would happen if I did. Besides that, I guess that the seriousness might be considered a negative. But this movie was dramatic for good reason, people dying and such is what made it sad in parts. So, all in all, the run time of 3h 2m was the only thing bad thing as far as the human bladder is concerned. None wanted to leave their seats unless it was urgent, for me it wasn’t so I’m thankful.
Endgame had people in the theater crying three quarters of the lengthy way through. This is an emotional time for many fans, whether you grew up watching the first Ironman movie or have only recently started your MCU journey with Civil War, you will be satisfied with the way many characters roles end. Yet, with the upcoming Disney +, some Marvel characters will see new life and ones with stories yet to be to be told fully will have an opportunity on Disney’s new platform that is in direct competition with Netflix. I’ll see you all there when it hits. Until then fans, not that I must tell you but still, go see the Avengers: Endgame. Whatever it takes!
