For many fans, the Last Jedi may have left a bad taste in our collective nerd mouths. From Luke turning from happy-go-lucky guy in previous series films to a total hermit in the Last Jedi. I guess that’s what it feels to get old. The whole flying Leia thing was horrendous, yet it did sparked many funny Mary Poppins memes on the internet so…Leia FTW???
I feel that Star Wars: the Last Jedi had it’s share of issues, such as why did Rose died for Finn. Did she really love him, or did she just want to be more like her sister who sacrificed herself for the rebellion, who knows. Only George Lucas and JJ. Abrams, that’s who, but I digress. Seeing the way Super Leader Snoke died by telling Kylo Ren “to strike down your true enemy” leads me to believe that Snoke wanted his apprentice to kill him, and here is my opinion of why.
Long ago before the Clone Wars ever began, there existed a Dark Lord of the Sith named Darth Plagueis. According to Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith, “Plagueis was so powerful and so wise that he could use the force to influence the mid-ichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.” This of course was just a recant from Palpatine to lure Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. But perhaps there is some truth is to how Plagueis died and how it pertains to Episode 9 aka the next film in the Star Wars cannon.
I was one of the fans who pegged Snoke as actually being Darth Plagueis whose scattered remains returned through a host body. How he and his apprentice Darth Sidious for years worked on how to use the dark side of the force to discover immortality as well as supplanting the Galactic-Republic with a new Sith Empire. But Sidious/ Palpatine followed the Rule of Two which states that only two Sith-a master and an apprentice could exist at given time. Yet learning everything he needed to from his master, Sidious killed his master in his sleep.
But did Darth Sidious really learn the way to bring back ones from death, or rather keep them from dying altogether. I am thinking that if he killed his master and had 30 years of ruling the galaxy that at some point he would have figured out the secret of immortality.
Yet the MO of Siths are that every apprentice goes on to kill their masters and therefore become masters themselves and seek out a worthy apprentice to train in the dark arts thus continuing the cycle. Yet all this talk about immortality has me thinking that Supreme Leader Snoke is someone we have seen or heard about before. There is much lore to be had in the Star Wars books if anyone has read any if not all of those pertaining to Darth Bane, Darth Tenebrous and so on, then perhaps somewhere in there lies the answer.
With that said, I am really uncertain just who Supreme Leader was, but I have a strong feeling that he is not dead. I belive that he could be Darth Plagueis or Darth Sidious and that he will return in Star Wars Episode 9. If Snoke had such a power that he could use it to bridge the minds of Kylo Ren and Rey then he must have foreseen his apprentice killing him. But I don’t think that Kylo Ren will follow in his masters footsteps and perhaps even be turned to the light side of the force by Rey.
There has been much speculation as to who Rey’s parents were. I think that she is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but not sure of who her parents are. Either way, they are strong with the force as Rey and Obi-Wan both can attest. Kylo Ren knows, but told her in the Last Jedi that her parents are…nobody. Nobody important anyway, but I think that he was lying just to convince her to join him in bringing order to the universe.
And just how will they explain Leia’s death, or rather the actress who played her for so long Carrie Fisher’s death in Episode 9. They should have killed the character gracefully off by letting her die in space, but they wanted to show the audience that Leia is just as much a Skywalker as Luke by having her use the force to fly down to the ship Marry Poppins style. But just know, they have there work cut out for them explaining just what becomes of Leia. I think that will say that she died in her sleep or something not harmful as being killed.
The biggest mistake the film makers could make is having another actress play Leia. Even though I don’t see that happening, it’s not out of the realm of possibility if you aren’t quite sure the right way of killing off a main character. Fans for one would be super pissed and confront them, plastic light sabers in hand. And I would be right there with them. To fans, Carrie Fisher will always be our Princess Leia Organa. RIP Carrie.
I think that Luke becoming a Martyr in the Last Jedi was a fitting end for him honestly. Even though I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he came back as a force ghost like Obi-Wan and Yoda before him. I really hope that he does so he can guide Rey on her path. Either way, the Last Jedi left us with many questions, and all fans can really do at this point is make predictions based on all available data. Until next time, may the force be with you all…always.
